No matter how hard we try, no matter how many times we imagine it over and over with a different outcome, the past will remain as it was. At some point we finally say, "Okay, I have to accept what happened and where I am" We can learn from it; take the love with us and grow. What is important to remember here is to be kind with yourself. As you look back and think of circumstances you wish you could change, words you wish you could take back, the biggest mistake would be not to learn from it at all. That is what this life is about; learning and growing.
To live in the past is to resist the very moment presented before you. Life is whispering, "Look here, I have put new people, new doors to open on your path. A path that now reflects the new you" Many times we do not see this because we are too busy looking back at past experiences we cannot change. As soon as we do accept the past and start to move forward we feel lighter. We start to see things that were always there, but we never saw before. We start to feel a sense of excitement as the moment begins to pull us forward and the feeling of "Being stuck" fades away. We drift back less and less as the newness of the now offers us new ideas, emotions, people and joy.
It is okay to drift back from time to time, but how long do you linger? Work on spending less time in the past and don't be hard on yourself if you do. Just remember to stay present as much as you can. The present is offering you many valuable gifts and is just waiting for you to realize they are there and that you deserve it!!
