Shift your focus on the good

Ever notice how much energy it takes to keep a negative thought or feelings going? We spend a lot of time going over the negative thing that happened over and over. We carry it home, we share it with others and then we ponder it again before bed. We seem to never let it go. Imagine if we used that same energy and carried over "feel good" feelings. It might be something small like a friend brought you a cupcake to work or you saw the most amazing cloud formation on your lunch break. It doesn't have to be a big event, but remember that what you focus on grows. We tend to focus MORE on the bad service we may have gotten at a restaurant and quickly forget about the good service.

I have seen people share something on FB and 90% of their posts are positive and supportive, but there is always that one post that really gets our goat.  The one person who is grumpy and so posts some offhanded response; hoping to seek some attention and they usually get it.  Everyone zooms in on that one negative posts and forgets about the  many beautiful posts and they almost all seem forgotten as we focus on that one.

Notice how the news is always sharing stories about terrible events and we almost never see any good news.  We live in fear despite the fact that in our present moment there is nothing really to fear.  If something were to happen we are capable of handling it in the time it is actually happening and that is how fear is dispersed with action, but we can't handle something that isn't even happening and so that fear remains as we anticipate the dreaded future while all the while the present moment is giving us so much to be thankful for and we just don't see it.

Try shifting your focus to the good things that happen throughout your day.  It will take practice as we are all so used to focus on the bad and negative and giving them far more attention than they deserve.  At night think about those good things again and let the feeling of joy and peace wash over you.  You will sleep like a baby.
